| The Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec has been
located in Whitby since 1982 at which time it was the recipient
of land on the south side of Taunton Road and just west
of Brock Street. In 1984 the Baptist Leadership Education
Center was constructed.
In the spring of 1992, a volunteer group appointed by
the Council of the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec,
initiated research into the development of an adult lifestyle
community on the 22-acre site. The volunteer group was
formalized in 1994 under the corporate name, The Corporation
of Convention Baptist Non-Profit Residences of Ontario
and Quebec. The objective of the Corporation is to create
a warm, friendly community where residents can lead an
independent, active lifestyle, and fellowship with one
another as well as with the broader community of Whitby.
This goal is to be achieved by providing a range of independent
and supportive housing options offering Christian residents
the ability to “age in place” by moving from
one housing to another and by purchasing personal
and health care services according to their needs. With
this goal in mind, an adult lifestyle community called “Lynde
Creek Village” has evolved. |
